Announcement: our new chief executive, Sam Hawksley

After almost ten years since co-founding Sing Inside, and committing to the charity’s development ever since, our chief executive Maisie has decided to step down from her position at Sing Inside. We are thrilled to have appointed Sam Hawksley to the role.

Sing Inside is delighted to announce the appointment of Sam Hawksley as our new chief executive. He brings a wealth of experience and expertise to take Sing Inside to the next stage, drawing on our strengths and building our sustainability for the future. Taking over from our founding chief executive Maisie Hulbert, Sam and Maisie are currently conducting a handover period and Sam will take over in full from January 2024. If you have any questions or would like to make contact with Sam, please get in touch on info@singinside.org.

A message from our chair, Nigel Rothband

Sam was an outstanding candidate and I speak on behalf of the whole Sing Inside board and team when I say we are extremely excited to welcome him. He brings huge skill to the Sing Inside team, with wide-ranging experience in community and charity settings and I have no doubt that under his leadership Sing Inside will grow and thrive at a time when prison communities have never needed music more. I very much look forward to working with him to embed the foundations built by Maisie and her team and am excited for Sing Inside’s next steps.

On behalf of the board, our stakeholders and particularly those in prison who have benefited from our work, I want to pay tribute to the outstanding job Maisie has done over so many years. Sing Inside has grown significantly under her leadership, none of it would have been possible without her and we have all been inspired by Maisie's passion, talent and sheer hard work and I wish her continued success.

A message from Sam Hawksley, incoming chief executive:

I'm delighted to take on the role of Chief Executive with Sing Inside. It is clear so much passion and hard work has been poured into this wonderful charity and I would like to pay tribute to Maisie and the original founding team for all they have achieved so far. I look forward to meeting funders and partners to learn more about the impact our work is having and working closely with the staff, volunteers and trustees to see our work grow and benefit more people through the joy of music

A message from Maisie, our outgoing chief executive:

It is an emotional time but really wonderful to feel that Sing Inside is in such experienced and safe hands with Sam taking over the role, and I know that it has an incredibly bright future ahead of it. I am especially grateful to the board for conducting such a thoughtful and careful recruitment process. It’s always been so important to me that those values are reflected at leadership level and throughout the charity, working alongside people in prison to build creative experiences which are musically rewarding, rooted in kindness, and above all else – fun. Running Sing Inside has been a joy, and I look forward to handing the reins to Sam and seeing how the charity develops.
